You can just do things

You can just... do things.
Sounds obvious, right?
But 99% of people don't get this.
And that’s why they stay stuck in the averages.
Winners play in extremes. They bend the space to their will. By their work. By their will.
This is important for you in 2025:
Traditional careers are dying faster than most realize.
No company wants to hire someone who can be replaced by AI next year.
But you know what AI can't replace?
Agency.

What is Agency?

Agency is the ability to take action without permission.
To see problems and solve them. To spot opportunities and seize them. To build without being told how.
George Mack defines it best in his new essay — Highagency.com
High Agency in a Question
You wake up in a 3rd world jail cell. You’re only allowed to call one person you know to get you out of there. Who do you call?
Why did you choose this person? What is it about them that made you pick up the phone?
This person you picked has something. A spark. A je ne sais quoi. That ‘something' is high agency.”

A secret most don’t know

Want to know something?
Most people I've hired did work for me before I asked for it. Permissionless.
They:
  • Built projects I didn't request
  • Solved problems I didn't mention
  • Created value without permission
They just took risks and did the work.
This goes against every single conditioning we grow up with.
We're raised to seek permission:
  • "Can I leave my seat?"
  • "Is this on the test?"
  • "What should I focus on next?"
Then we enter the workforce and wonder why we're stuck.

Technology is the great equalizer

In a world where technology is democratized:
  • AI can write your code
  • No-code tools can build your app
  • ChatGPT can draft your emails
  • You and the Apple CEO use the same laptop
The playing field is level.
But high-agency people will always rise to the top.

Examples of High Agency 👇

  • Building a tool for a founder you admire (without asking)
  • Starting a newsletter about a topic you care about
  • Creating a solution for a problem you see
  • Shipping a product in a weekend
  • Reaching out to someone with work already done
I’ve seen 2 incredible smart kids land dream gigs with high agency:
1 - College kid landing a writing job with Alex Lieberman:
2 - College kid landing a Shopify internship within 24 hours:

Low Agency vs. High Agency

Low agency: "I'm waiting for the right opportunity." High agency: "I'm creating the right opportunity."
Low agency: "No one will hire me without experience." High agency: "I'll gain experience by building something."
Low agency: "I need funding to start." High agency: "I'll start with what I have."

P.S. I've noticed something fascinating - the highest agency people I know are all crushing it on X.
It makes perfect sense when you think about it: X is the ultimate platform for expressing yourself without asking for permission.
This realization is exactly what got me hooked on X years ago.
That's why I'm building SuperX (think of it as the new Tweet Hunter, but significantly better).
We're developing what I genuinely believe will be the best tool for X growth, by far.
I'll be announcing the new version in the coming weeks 👀
If you're serious about leveraging your agency mindset to build an audience that can't be replaced by AI, you'll want to keep an eye out for this.

How to develop agency

  1. Start small - build something this weekend
  1. Embrace embarrassment - first attempts should be bad
  1. Share publicly - accountability drives action
  1. Set artificial deadlines - "shipping Monday no matter what"
  1. Build for specific people - not for "the market"
In a world of AI:
  • Followers become replaceable
  • Doers become invaluable
The barrier to doing has never been lower. The rewards for doing have never been higher.

Stop Waiting

For permission. For the right time. For someone to notice you. For the perfect idea.
Just do things.
Because you can just do things.
