Kill that project this summer

It's summer time…
Everybody is chilling on a European beach, getting ready for Q3 and Q4 ahead.
But I'm doing something different…
Reflecting on what worked, what didn't, and where to go next.
There's one question that keeps coming up. The hardest one every founder faces:
Should I kill my project or double down?
I've asked this question to mentors, successful founders, investors. Everyone has opinions.
But in the end, the answer has to come from you.
The tricky part is that most of us don't really know ourselves well enough to answer it correctly.

Here's the problem:

I've learned I tend to fall in love with my projects.
This makes me hold on too long to things that aren't working.
So I force myself to kill projects earlier if they don't bring revenue. It's painful, but it's necessary given my personality.
But other people are different. I've met founders who struggle to finish anything. They jump from project to project.
SuperX.so is my counter-example. After 10 months of stagnation, it's finally taking off. If I'd followed my usual rule, I would have killed it months ago.

The lesson? Understand who you are and act accordingly.

The 5 Questions that actually matter 🔍

When I'm torn about a project, I ask myself these 5 questions:
  • Am I getting revenue? This is the only true validation that matters
  • If not, is there something very strong that makes me think there's still potential? Be brutally honest here
  • Would I start from scratch today given what I know? This cuts through sunk cost fallacy
  • Personal energy: Am I excited or does it drain me? Life's too short for energy-draining projects
  • Opportunity cost: What else could I build with this time?
If you are honest with yourself, you won’t need external help in deciding the fate of your project.

Summer isn't just for vacation. It's for making the hard decisions.
The projects that survive your honest evaluation are the ones worth doubling down on.
The ones that don't? Kill them before they kill your momentum.
Sometimes the best decision is the hardest one.
Don't let sunk cost fallacy keep you from making it.
