I've never been a Black Friday person.
Discounting feels like admitting your product isn't worth full price. It trains customers to wait for sales instead of buying when they need it.
But every year, everyone else does Black Friday sales. And they work.
So either I'm missing something, or everyone else is doing it wrong.

The Black Friday Dilemma
Here's my problem with most Black Friday offers:
They cheapen the product.
50-70% off screams "we're desperate" more than "great deal."
They attract wrong customers.
People buying for discount, not value, churn fast.
They train bad behaviour. Why buy now when you can wait for next sale?
But here's what I've learned watching other founders: done right, Black Friday isn't about discounting. It's about removing friction for people already considering your product.
The Right Way to Think About It
Black Friday should:
- Lower the barrier for people on the fence
- Give existing fans a reason to expand (try another product)
- Create urgency without desperation
- Maintain product value and positioning
Just keep the discount meaningful but not extreme. 20-40% removes friction. 70% raises red flags.
