I’ve posted 6,000+ tweets since 2020.
I also built an X growth tool and sold it for $10m.
Last week I pulled my own data to see what works on X right now.
The post went viral:
Here’s each point with a post of mine as an example:
👇🏼
1. Replies beat posts when you’re small
Your post gets 50 impressions because no one knows who you are. A good reply/quote on a viral post can get 50k.
My quote on a viral Karpathy post (“explain how Shazam works”) got 650K views and 8k+ likes.
It was my biggest post of the month.
Borrow someone else’s reach.
2. Long beats short
Posts over 600 characters crush my one-liners.
This is because X knows exactly who to show my post to - and I can put a complete opinion on it for people to comment on.
Eg: this post is something I think a lot of people are suffering from. It went viral.
3. Put a real dollar amount in it
Numbers make people stop. And it adds credibility to what you are writing about.
Eg: I posted about the AI costs for video generation, and X went wild:
4. One-liners are lottery tickets
A few go mega viral. Most die.
And even if they go viral, they fetch you very few followers, customers, and conversations. People just like and move on.
5. Questions as hooks are overrated.
My question hooks underperform.
I think people are now immune to these as engagement bait and ignore these posts.
6. If it flops in 30 minutes, fix the hook and repost
Generally, I'm not a big fan of editing your content again and again, but if it's something that you've really put effort into, it's worth fixing the hook every once in a while.
Same idea, new hook.
7. People bookmark what they’ll use later
My most bookmarked post has 19,000+ bookmarks.
It’s a guide from Claude’s team on prompt engineering, shared with my notes.
Share a guide. Add your take. Make it worth people’s time.
8. Talk about your life more than your product
Let’s be real, no one opens X thinking they need more marketing tweets.
They open the app to read stories from other people.
So stop being uptight and share your personal stories.
These get you credibility + make it easy for the readers to connect with you.
There’s 1 bonus rule no one talks about enough:
Be consistent. Never miss a day.
It’s a long journey. Here’s my 2015 to 2026 timeline.
Reply and tell me:
Did you post today?
Btw, if you post on X about something you learnt from this newsletter and tag me (@tibo_maker) - I will repost it! just send me the link by replying to this email 👇🏼
